Loree has taught in a variety of institutional settings, including the Highlights Foundation Founders Workshops, the Writer’s Loft, and at the Montserrat College of Art. She currently teaches in the Writing for Children & Young Adults MFA program at VCFA, a CalArts affiliate, specializing in true storytelling and intensive nonfiction studies. Learn more here.
Private Mentorship
When her schedule allows, Loree offers group workshop experiences for writers interested in exploring and practicing true storytelling for children, teens, and adults. These workshops use Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process (CRP) as a foundational tool for giving and receiving critical feedback on works-in-progress; Loree is deeply engaged in CRP study through the Liz Lerman Foundation and will receive her certification in January 2026.
Other topics that Loree occasionally covers in private workshops include Nonfiction for Young Readers, The Nonfiction Book Proposal, Personal Essay & Memoir, plus a variety of book club and essay discussion groups. Reach out through the contact page to learn about upcoming opportunities.
Freelance Project Development
In addition, Loree mentors a small number of individual writers each year, providing editorial feedback on manuscripts and book proposals as well as guidance on the development of nonfiction projects, particularly in the children’s arena.
